Scientists of the University of California have discovered new negative consequences of insufficient sleep. It turns out that sleep deprivation leads not only to a bad mood, lethargy and obesity, but also can cause diseases such as asthma, cancer and arthritis.
People whose sleep was less or more than the recommended 7-8 hours, had increased concentration of inflammatory proteins in blood. Such biomarkers are associated with various diseases – diabetes, hypertension, asthma and depression. The authors suggest that sleep disorders may be a risk factor for the development of certain diseases, as they affect the immune system.
